Most camping trips require packing quite a lot of gear along with you. If you haven’t properly prepared, packing all that cargo securely into your vehicle and getting it from point A to point B can be quite the challenge. Luckily, Westcan has a variety of solutions for you! A go-to favorite upfit is a standard cab guard paired with rail caps. The cab guard and rail caps can provide both limited body protection, and tie down points for securing cargo. By making it much quicker and easier to secure your gear, you’ll find you spend much less time worrying about what’s going on in the box of your truck, and much more time enjoying your journey to the destination!
For those weekend warriors, the addition of rail caps also gives you the ability to create a dry, secure place to store your firewood out of the rain. Just throw a tarp over top, tying it to the rail caps to keep it taut and the rain out!
4X4ing and Off-Roading
If you’re off-roading, you know how important visibility is in order to keep safe. Having proper markers and/or beacon lights can make all the difference. Westcan offers a variety of solutions to this problem, the first being our light mount cab guard. While it provides as much protection as any of our other cab guard styles, it has the additional capacity to mount lights up to 6″ wide with no additional parts required for mounting.
If you’ve already got your truck upfitted and are just looking for a way to add some light to the mix, we’ve got you covered! Westcan also carries beacon light mounts in adjustable and fixed, as well as a variety of sizes to choose from. These beacon light mounts are a valuable addition to any work or recreational truck, as they increase visibility and therefore safety. This is a low-cost way to add extra visibility to your upfit without having to sacrifice your style.
If your upfit includes a crossover toolbox, you may find that’s the simplest place to store any compact fishing gear. Westcan’s tool holders can be used to store fishing rods, pole nets and any other long tools in a tidy and secure fashion while travelling! Many people choose to take their own small boats out when they go fishing. When used together, the rear rack and cab guard have a top load rating of 650lbs, assuming even weight distribution. This means that many small aluminum fishing boats are carryable on top! We recommend using Westcan’s cab guard and rear rack extenders for better fitment and compatibility with a wider range of boats. Please double-check all measurements before trying this, as not all small-sized fishing boats will fit up top.
Using the Overcanopy Rack…
Almost all overcanopy racks are usable without a canopy! A popular application involves quads, dirtbikes, and other compact recreational vehicles. Load the vehicles into the back of the truck, using the rack to secure them into place. Although not listed as a primary function, using the overcanopy rack in such a way may provide somewhat of a brush guard for the vehicles in the truck bed if travelling through wooded areas.
Overcanopy racks can also act as a frame for quick, easy lean-tos. This is a popular application when camping or even on extended road trips. Setting up a covered area in the bed doesn’t require that a canopy be on the truck at the time. It also provides plenty of room for sleep or even just shelter from the sun.
