On February 6, 2018, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the 2019 Sprinter in Duisburg, Germany.
The 2019 Sprinter boasts many new features and options, resulting in a staggering 1700 configurations to choose from. Some new features include a self-cleaning rear-view mirror camera, blind spot information systems and, the all-new option for a gasoline engine. This change from diesel-only to offering a variety of engine options means that the Sprinter will become a suitable choice for a wider variety of fleet-operating businesses.
The Sprinter will have four different dashboard options, plus the new Mercedes-Benz User Experience system to choose from. The MBUX option has a color touch screen, fleet messaging systems, and even a selection of voice commands.
New Mercedes Pro Connect packages will also be available – These packages include telematics, a built in wi-fi hotspot, and a mobile app tailored to fit the needs of fleet drivers and managers. Canadian Sprinters will not immediately have these options available.
Mercedes Pro Connect options that will be available include..:
Mercedes Maintenance Management
With optimized assistance, fleet managers can easily schedule vehicle maintenance and service. Roadside assistance can also be provided by the fleet manager at the push of a button.
The Mercedes Pro Connect will also be capable of vehicle tracking. A dashboard that will be both mobile and desktop compatible.
The 2019 Sprinter also bears an improved navigation system. When using the MBUX dashboard, a full-color map display makes information simpler to understand at a glance. Real-time traffic updates make efficient route-planning that much simpler. Never worry about getting stuck in construction or traffic jams again!
Efficient Driving Style Analysis
Another feature that will be particularly useful to fleet managers is the ability to track fuel consumption. Mercedes Pro Connect will allow fleet managers to analyze even individual drivers’ fuel consumption and adjust accordingly.
Simple Fleet Communication
There will also be a Vehicle Management Tool that will allow direct communication between the fleet driver and their manager. This becomes a powerful tool for fleet management when used with one or several of the other available features that the Mercedes Pro Connect suite has to offer.
Tired of drivers recording their trips inaccurately, or simply not at all? The digital driver’s log allows the tracking of trips, and has the capability to flag individual trips as business, personal, or time spent commuting.
Mobile Vehicle Access
Problems with consistent vehicle lock-up? Fleet Managers will be able to control both vehicle locks and windows, so there will never be reason to worry. Even if the vehicle is out of sight, the mobile lock and window controls will work. Remote locking and unlocking is available even for the load compartment’s doors!
Data Interface – Mercedes-Benz Vans
For added flexibility, data from Sprinter and Metris vans will be able to be integrated into non-Mercedes fleet management systems. This allows the gradual integration of Mercedes vans into fleets where those might not be the chosen vehicle standard.
Some of the above listed features will come at no extra cost, and other features will be optional for adding on. It has yet to be revealed which of these features will come in the base model, and which will be at an additional cost. Most models will be built in South Caroline at the new factory in Charleston. The cab-and-chassis model will come from the Ludwigsfelde factory near Berlin, and pricing for the 2019 Sprinter will start at $30569.97 CAD ($23896.55 USD). The van’s North American release takes place before the end of the 2018 calendar year.
